A private pregnancy journal that stays with you

A place for the scan photos, the small worries and the Tuesday you felt the first kick.

Cozy cover: A private pregnancy journal that stays with you

A pregnancy journal is your own record of the months before a baby: how you felt, what the scan showed, what you were afraid of and what made you laugh. Most people buy a physical book. A digital one works too, as long as the writing stays yours, on your own device, with no account and no one reading along.

I make Cozy, a journal app that keeps every entry as a file on your own disk. I’m not pregnant and I won’t pretend to tell you how it feels. What I can tell you is what to look for in a place to put something this personal.

Why a digital journal fits this moment

A printed pregnancy journal gives you a page for each week and a few lines to fill in. That’s lovely, until your handwriting runs out of room, or you want to find the entry about the second scan and can’t remember which month it was in.

A digital journal doesn’t run out of lines. You can write three words on a tired day and three pages on a good one, drop in the ultrasound photo, and search for “heartbeat” a year from now. If you already keep a pregnancy diary in your head, this is the same habit with more room.

It also goes where you go. The benefits of journaling mostly come from doing it often, and a phone in your pocket makes a two-line entry at 2am easier than a book on the nightstand.

Keep your memories private

Pregnancy brings the kind of thoughts you might not say out loud: fear about the birth, mixed feelings, things you’d only tell a notebook. Writing them in an app that uploads everything to a company’s servers is a bigger decision than it looks.

That unease is why Cozy has no account and no cloud of its own. Your entries are your own files on your own disk, and you can open them without Cozy. There is no AI in it. Nothing you write is read, trained on or sent anywhere. If you want to know why, I wrote about it.

That is what I’d want from any private pregnancy journal. Ask the app where the entries live, and whether you can read them if the company closes.

How a pregnancy journal works in Cozy

Cozy is a general journal. It has no pregnancy templates and no week-by-week prompts, and I’d rather say so than invent them. What it does well is the plain part:

  1. Write. Open a new entry and type. Title it “Week 12 scan” if you like, or leave it blank.
  2. Add. Drop in photos, a short video or a voice memo. The media guide covers how.
  3. Find. Search your whole journal from one place, or look back by date.

Cozy runs on Mac, Windows, iPhone and iPad. If you write on your phone and read on a laptop, you can sync between iPhone and Mac through iCloud Drive. A quiet screen helps too; Cozy is a distraction-free writing app first.

A lasting record you own

Pregnancy is nine months. The journal might matter for decades, and a pregnancy keepsake shouldn’t depend on a subscription you forgot to renew.

Cozy is bought once. No account, no subscription. Students and educators get 40% off. Because the entries are your own files, they stay readable after the app is gone.

I built it that way for three reasons. First, you’re not tied to my app. The entries are plain text, so if you change your mind about Cozy one day, moving them to another tool costs you very little time and effort.

Second, nobody will take better care of your entries than you. I keep none of them on a server of mine. That makes them your responsibility, and I think it’s the best thing that can happen to them. I’ve heard too many stories of journals lost to a server crash or a hacked database.

Third, I don’t want to know about your life. Your journal is yours and only yours. What you do with it later is your decision too, even asking a local AI model for ideas from your own entries.

If you’re coming from another app, Cozy can import from Day One.

Common questions

Can I add ultrasound photos?

Yes. Drop photos into any entry, or use the photo shortcut in the editor. They sit next to your writing, so the scan and what you felt about it stay together. Photos are saved with the entry on your own disk, not uploaded anywhere.

Is my journal safe from AI?

Cozy has no AI in it. Nothing you write is read, trained on or sent anywhere. Your entries are files on your own disk. If you later choose to give those files to another tool, that is your decision, and Cozy can’t stop or see it.

What if I switch from a physical journal?

You don’t have to copy everything out. Photograph the pages that matter and add them to an entry, then keep writing in Cozy from today. Or type up only the lines you want to search for later. Both work, and neither needs an account.

Can my partner contribute?

Cozy has no accounts and no invite feature, so each person keeps their own journal. If you want your partner’s words in yours, they can write them in an entry on your device, or you can paste them in afterwards.

Do I need an internet connection?

No. Cozy is a local app, so you can write offline and your entries are saved on your device. You only need a connection if you choose to sync through iCloud or Dropbox, and that is the sync service you already use, not one of mine.

How is this different from a notes app?

A notes app is built for lists and quick reminders. Cozy is built for writing over years: entries by date, photos beside the text, search across all of it, and no AI. Some notes apps sync through a company’s servers, so check where your own notes end up.

Start your journal

Download Cozy, open a new entry and write the date and one sentence about today. That is a pregnancy journal. If you’d like help getting going, how to start journaling is a gentle place to begin, and Cozy is where the writing can stay yours. This journal is for you, not a substitute for advice from your midwife or doctor.
